E-News 2010.03.30 Still kicking. 2010 is off to a great start. Improving economy and pent up demand had resulted in the sale of 10 turbo kits so far this year! 2008.09.01 We moved again! This time to Milwaukee, WI. Good news is that we have moved into a less expensive facility that will help keep this gig going! 2008.01.27 Ok. So it took me a few more years than I promised to launch the new website. Shame on me. Well it's here and will be improved regularly. Check out our BMW FI forum. I promise it will not include the drama typical of some other forums. 2006.12.09 More progress on the 635. The interior is gutted and Recaro manual seats have been fitted. Next step is removing the big brakes and replacing them with stock brakes. We'll be using WEDS 20 bolt 3pc race wheels. 15x7 with 185/65 tires up front and 15x9 with 26x9 Hoosier slicks in the rear. Wheels only weigh 14lbs. We have also started the final build of our first e36 turbo car. Fitment of the prototype manifold and exhaust were completed earlier this year. The manifold will be cast prior to the end of the year Our current schedule has the car boosted by the end of January. It's going to feature a SEM plug and play standalone which be included in all kits. The "Buzz Bomb", our m20 turbo car, is getting a new motor next week. It's a non vanos m50b25. It'll be boosted next year as well. I am working on our new Catalog and hope to launch it 1/1/07. It'll be a modern shopping cart style catalog with optional online credit card purchasing. Todd
2006.11.24 OK, we are back! Weekly updates will be the norm. Today we started a new project. Last week the car that started it all arrived from MA. Sweeney's twin turbo 635 has seen better days as a daily driver. It dutifully withstood 46k miles of abuse and still runs but not too strongly. The motor is a little tired, the tires are bald and it hadn't seen a bath in a few years. This afternoon my son (7 years old) stripped the trunk carpet and removed all of the trunk tar. This is the start of what will become a street legal but otherwise uncompromised drag car. It will get an entirely new drive train, turbo system and engine management system. I am very excited to see how quick/fast an e24 can go. Todd
2005.07.13 TCD has a really good time at 5erFest 2005. It's amazing that we can still have these excellent gatherings every year to celebrate a car that seems to get better with age (and boost!!!). Thanks to all who came to the event!!!
2005.05.08 TCD Prototype E34 Intercooler.. coming soon!!!
2005.04.27 We are feverishly preparing for 5erFest 2005. We are bringing three cars. All with Stage 2 turbo kits. The 1985 535i, 1989 325i and 1992 535i are all coming down to the event to showcase the products that Turbo Charging Dynamics has to offer for these great cars. We expect to have the largest gathering of turbo m30s ever assembled in the US. We look forward to meeting the many people that we have met online at this great event. See you there! Todd 2005.04.20 Sweeney is at it again!!! Here's a sneak peak... shhh!!!!
2005.03.21 We moved to Dublin, OH. Over the winter we completed project 745i which yielded 331rwhp from its 3.2L. We also yanked the 5 speed out of the e28 535i in an attempt to get it into the 11s in the ¼ mile. The 3000 rpm stall converter will yield 6psi without the car moving! The engine received a fresh m30b35 cylinder head and MegaSquirt fuel management. John purchased a 1986 M635i and promptly yanked the drive-train and is working his magic on the new motor. Let's just say that the purists will have a heart attack when they look under the hood. The 325i has served another winter as the beater of the fleet. It's gone 18k miles in the last 11 months with zero failures. It's currently in pieces. The prototype turbo kit is at the shop getting the jigs made. The new m20 turbo manifolds are also at the machine shop. We anticipate the m20 kit being available in June. Thanks, Todd 2004.08.29 Stage 1 - Picture of Complete Kit
2004.08.23 We are pleased to announce that the several TCD
turbo powered cars have come to life during the month of August.
1990 535i
1986 535i
1987 535is
1987 535i
1986 325es (2.8L m20b25)
It has been our pleasure to work with this very
enthusiastic group of owners and want to thank them for their support.
Thanks,
Todd
2004.07.04 We have been really busy testing
and tuning both cars and getting everything sorted out. Here is the latest
comparison for the 325i. The Dyno sheets reflect a comparison of the 325i stock vs. the TCD S2 Turbo Kit.
Thanks for looking....
2004.04.04 We recently built the prototype
intercooler for the 325i. Here are a few pictures. Dyno and track
times to come as soon as we install the Spec S3 Clutch.
We just returned from a nearly
3000 mile trip to Sharkfest in Alabama. We took the 535i. It was
perfectly reliable as always. Still pounding on the junkyard motor with
no failures. It returned an average of 23mpg for the trip. We ran
14psi and intercooled for the trip. It made 303rwhp/341rwtq just prior
to departure. We are one Spec S3 clutch away from being able to
significantly turn up the boost. The S1 kits are available. We are
delivering 3 next month.
Thanks for your interest so far. Todd and John
2004.02.11 Hey Guys,
We got started this weekend and made some
good progress. We pulled
the complete exhaust, intake and valve cover and a few other things. Installed
the manifold, wastegate, turbo and built the 3" downpipe and full
exhaust. Installed a powdercoated intake with 24lb injectors and valve cover.
We have a few items to procure this week but hope to have it running by early
next week.
The exhaust has two
O2 sensor bungs so we can run a wideband O2 sensor and use our data logger to
record rpm, boost and a/f ratio while driving. No more tuning on the dyno for
us.
Thanks,
Todd and John
2004.01.22 Hey Guys,
Just a quick note to let you know that we are
sponsoring the 2004 Sharkfest in Scottsboro, AL. We'll be bringing a S2 equipped BMW to the event.
We are also sponsoring a 1974
2002Tii equipped with a m20 turbo motor in this years One Lap of America.
We'll be driving the 325i
with the S2 kit to the event on May 7th at Road America.
A 1992 535i 5 speed has made it's way into the
project car fleet. This weekend, Bill Phelps, a close friend, purchased
the e34 and has agreed to let us use it as a test vehicle. Work starts
on this vehicle soon.
Please keep an eye on the website for developments
on these projects.
Thanks,
Todd

2004.01.15 Hope everyone had a good holiday.
Winter has hit us hard and made tuning difficult. The 535i was spinning
the tires at 90mph in 4th gear last weekend. Michelin Pilot Sports + 0F
+ 20psi doesn't lend itself to good traction.
We have completed the S1 kit.
John redesigned all the piping and made it a very tidy package. It's
very attractive. I'll post pics on the website over the weekend.
All the hardware for the S2 kit is
in house. It'll include a turbo with more capacity and large water/air
intercooler. We hope to have that completed in a few weeks.
The manifolds should be delivered
within two weeks. We are going to produce ten kits in the first run.
Four are already spoken for. As soon as the manifolds are received I'll
be taking deposits from anyone who wants to be sure to get a kit in the first
run.
We also intend to include
software (turbo chip) with the kits.
2003.12.13 Several improvements have been
made to the car since the last dragstrip
test. We fabricated and installed a complete
3" exhaust, installed 36lb injectors, installed a high flow in tank
fuel pump, installed urethane sub-frame bushings and replaced the 3.25LSD with
a 2.93LSD.
We are still running 15psi non
intercooled. We had big hopes for the drags this time and while the
times fell short of my goals, we learned alot about the car!
Here are the numbers:
60'
2.327
330
6.058
1/8
9.023
MPH
84.28
990 11.447
1/4
13.577
MPH
108.96
The car picked up 3/10s and
3.5mph! In drag racing this is a significant improvement. The
60' time is still pathetic and the car was spinning all of 2nd gear as well.
It did accelerate from 82-109 in 4.6 seconds! I was bouncing the rev
limiter in 3rd gear about 4/5 car lengths before the finish time every time,
otherwise the car probably would have run 111mph.
I made progress in learning how
to launch the car. The last run I achieved a 2.15 60ft time but smoked
the clutch in 2nd gear after a 5500rpm launch. A six puck clutch is on
the way. We are also developing a turbo chip. It will
feature a 6600rpm redline.
I am planning one more trip to
the drags with the Stage 1 kit in mid January. I am shooting for high
12s and 110+ mph. Then it's time for the intercooler, more boost and
BIG power!
2003.11.20 The e-catalog pages have been updated with suspension and driveline parts. Please note that TCD is an authorized retailer for most parts related to BMW performance. Please contact us first to get prices and availability for any parts you may need for your vintage or current model BMW. We will continue to add products and services to the e-catalog so bookmark and check back frequently for updates. 2003.11.11 We just went out on a limb and announced the release date for the M20 and M30 turbo kits. We expect to release the first run on the first day of Feb 2004. Please check back for updates as they become available. 2003.11.07 We finished the 3"
exhaust system for the e28/e24 M30 recently. The exhaust is all
3" mandrel bent tubing with a high flow catalytic converter and straight
through muffler. The system will be available in aluminized steel or
stainless steel. The improvement in throttle response and spool up was
astonishing. We are very pleased with the results. We
won't have final pricing until early January but I expect it to be a bargain
compared to other performance exhaust systems available. We
will be taking the 535i back to the dyno in the next few weeks to get the
final numbers for the Stage 1 system. We have already started work on
the intercooler and it should be on the car within a month.
As a side note, the m20 manifolds
arrived and we are starting work on the 325i as well.
Thanks for you continued interest.
Todd and John
2003.10.04 We took the car (535i)
to the dragstrip yesterday and the kit performed perfectly. We ran 15psi non
intercooled on 94 octane Sunoco. Unfortunately the driver (me) was pathetic and was unable to launch the car without spinning all of first gear and half of
second (ed. Todd's being way too humble.. the car makes too much TQ to hook
up even
on drag radials!) The car ran 13.86 @ 105.56mph. For you drag racers, here are all the numbers. 2003.09.30 The catalog has been updated with pricing for the much anticipated m30 and m20 Turbo Kits. More products will be added to the catalog over the next couple of weeks so bookmark the site and keep checking for updates. 2003.09.29 Check out the new FAQ page! 2003.09.12 Turbo Charging Dynamics recently leased shop space in CT in the Windsor Locks area. This new space will allow TCD to offer installation services for all the products that we offer. Contact us for more information. 2003.09.05 The BMW turbo registry is now on the TCD site. Do you have a Turbo BMW car and feel like you should be included on this list? Send the information to TCD so you can be added to this exclusive list. 2003.09.01 The www.turbochargingdynamics.com site is up. and is currently a work in progress! Keep checking back on a regular basis because we will be updating the site with a lot of information over the next couple of weeks. We will also provide more technical information about our upcoming turbo kits for the older BMW's. 2003.08 One great road trip, one excellent 5erFest festival, 4 powerful and equally unique cars, 15psi in the TCD project car, 1,700 miles of highway and no worries or regrets. What more could you ask for? ... less rain maybe?? In any case the TCD family had a great time. Need to see more photos??? check the events page.
